Door County, Wisconsin: Ali’s dream wedding destination – the back yard of her family’s lake home. Dreams certainly came true on this wedding day!
Destination weddings are always a thrill! Having the opportunity to explore exciting new spaces and places is the best! I had never been to Door County before but the way Ali and Sanjin talked about it during or meetings prior to wedding day it seemed like it was as close to heaven on earth. Turns out that’s not far from the truth! Gorgeous lake side properties, charming locally owned ice cream parlors, a genuine Wisconsin barn on a pier jetting out into Lake Michigan, and the most quintessential little white church overlooking the bay. Seriously, everything about Ali and Sanjin’s wedding day was a dream plus some.
One of the most unique events I got to witness and photograph was, as I understand, the Scandinavian tradition of burying a bottle of booze at the site of your wedding reception. During the reception the bottle must be dug back up and passed around. Turns out, Sanjin and his brother, Boris, had a tough time recalling the exact spot they had buried their bottle of Rakia! Everyone pitched in, flinging hand fulls of sand in every direction until, finally, the bottle was found!
Ali and Sanjin are beautiful people inside and out. Their connection in front of my lens is everything I could ask for as a wedding photographer – but I got the honor of witnessing so much more than just that on this beautiful wedding day in Door County.
