I’ll say it: size does not matter.
John and Jovi, these two gorgeous blondies hailing from the gorgeous province of Saskatchewan up north, reached out to me about a week before their wedding day inquiring on coverage for their “super small” river-side wedding. I was curious so we met and I was instantly excited for this opportunity to capture their wedding – specifically to have the opportunity to focus on my one absolute most favorite thing about weddings: capturing the emotion of the bride and groom. Everything else with the typical “full-meal-deal” weddings is nice but when it comes down to it the point is always, simply, to declare your intention to faithfully love one another for the rest of your time on earth. That’s what it’s all about and that was the center of this day.
There were 12 people in attendance (13 counting me). The ceremony took place on a beautiful small overlook of the Des Moines River and the city’s skyline. All in all the whole thing lasted about 10 minutes and every minute was perfect. They said their “I dos” and then they were married! We captured some family photos with their parents, siblings, and nephews following the ceremony. The family then headed over to Des Moines’ iconic Papajohn Sculpture Park for a bit before the evening’s dinner reservation.
That left me, John, and Jovi and a limo to take us wherever we wanted for photos! We captured some beautiful portraits of these two: freshly married, enjoying the gorgeous evening in Downtown Des Moines, and making memories of the first few moments as husband and wife. It was pretty special.
